> OL WM 2003 > News > Map Layout All OL WM 2003 maps printedEnd of June the whole set of 20 maps required for the OL WM 2003 have been printed. After checking by the WM mappers these maps are safely stored in a print of 44,000 pieces at the printer's shop and are waiting for the imprint of the courses. This will happen in the days until mid July: Two qualification heats with six different courses each, four finals each and several model courses are going to be transferred onto the brand-new WM maps. Only a very small circle of technical people knows the secret courses already today. About 70 square kilometers of terrain were mapped anew for the OL WM 2003. During the week just before the WM also these printings will be checked by the course-setter team, by the technical delegate of the Swiss Orienteering Federation SOLV and by the IOF controllers as well such that the WM competitions will go off smoothly without technical failures. Finally on August 1, the Swiss independence day, the maps will be welded into 800 prepared dirt- and waterproof plastic bags at a butcher's shop. Many discussions arose because of the layout of the WM maps. After different proposals have been available the WM organizers have now agreed on a modern but unpretentious layout with respect to typography and design. Posted: 2003-07-13 16:14:48 |
